Water Well Drilling

What Is The Process?

Do you have a property or land with no city water or access to any other water source? Are you considering purchasing one?

Has your current well gone dry, silted in, become rusted, or just plain collapsed?

Has your water pressure dropped? Pump sputtering?

Does your water taste, smell, or look bad?

Legend Drilling Services is here to help you throughout the entire process. We are just a phone-call away with a dedicated service team. Please contact us today and we will do our best to get to your project right away.

Water Well Drilling

Legend Drilling is a full-service water well drilling and pump services company, servicing the State of Utah. We have access to detailed well records, and we do extensive research for each proposed drill site. We look for factors such as how far down the ground water level had been in the past, as well as what type of formations we will be drilling through, and determine the best-suited well construction for the project. Legend Drilling listens to your specific water needs so that we can offer you the best possible advice, meeting all State and local regulations, as your plans develop.

What Does A Water Well Cost?

In Utah, water well drilling can vary depending on location and elevation to name a few factors. Well depths usually range from 100-feet deep to 500-feet deep in most cases, but some areas require us to drill much deeper. Drilling costs are based on factors such as: ground stability, drilling method, drilling conditions, depth, diameter, site-access, location, lithology, materials used in well construction, well performance, pump system, options chosen, etc.

Legend Drilling will consult with you every step of the way, providing effective solutions to help keep costs down, while delivering a water well that meets all State and local regulations. The final total is determined by the total drilled depth based upon the amount and quality of water we find, the actual materials and quantities used in well construction, and the pump system determined by well performance and your household water and irrigation needs.

Air Rotary Drilling

Legend Drilling offers a variety of drilling methods for water wells. The deciding factor on which method we use is based on ground stability and drilling conditions. Air rotary drilling is our preferred method.

Air rotary has the benefit of not using any artificial mud or other chemicals. A non-toxic drill foam “soap” is used to keep the drill bit lubricated and to help evacuate or lift the cuttings out of the borehole. One of the benefits of wells drilled using just high-pressure air is they tend to have a cleaner borehole with less blockage of aquifer pores. As a result, developing the well becomes a lot easier and does not require some of the more intrusive methods or chemicals, and this process is a lot more environmentally friendly and responsible.

Mud Rotary Drilling

Another common drilling method is called mud rotary. This method consists of using liquid mud to cool the drill bit and drill string also known as the tooling. The mud is used to form a wall cake and prevent the bore hole from collapsing. Mud rotary can be very effective in some areas because of high concentration of unconsolidated soil layers that tend to collapse when drilling. The liquid mud has a high density and helps loose/sandy layers hold their form during the drilling process. The mud viscosity is closely controlled throughout the entire drilling process. After the well is drilled the well must be properly developed in order to maximize the well yield.

Casing Installation

The type of well casing installed depends on ground stability and drilling conditions. Legend Drilling Services utilizes the highest quality materials, meeting all State and local regulations.

Casing Types

We offer multiple types of casing including steel and PVC water well casings.

Artificial Gravel Pack

An artificial gravel filter pack may be installed depending on the materials used in well construction to assist with well stability and additional filtration.

Surface Seal

The Surface Seal is a State of Utah well construction requirement. Its purpose is to protect from surface pollutants/contaminates from entering the well and running down the casing into the aquifer. The seal depth required by the State of Utah is a minimum of 30-feet deep for residential wells but can be deeper as required by some conditions and County regulations.

Well Development

Depending on the method of construction and the formation, a water well needs to be developed over an extended period of time to open pores from drilling and help clear sediments. During the air rotary drilling process and especially afterwards, a full well development is done to maximize yield and properly manage the aquifer.
